Phenomenon, designed by Tokujin Yoshioka for Mutina, is an iconic porcelain mosaic collection that transforms the smallest ceramic elements into expressive, nature-inspired surfaces. Rather than imitating natural forms, the collection evokes the emotion and atmosphere of natural phenomena through subtle textures reminiscent of honeycombs, snowflakes, ice crystals, and plant cells.
Each tile is crafted through an extraordinary artisanal process: individual mosaic elements are pressed using bespoke 100-hole molds, then expertly assembled by hand into sheets. This approach creates a richly tactile and “handmade” effect that elevates both residential and commercial spaces. The distinctive powdery matte surface, produced by combining wet-coloured and dry-coloured porcelain bodies, yields unique, natural-looking shades across the collection.
Phenomenon includes eight mosaic formats — Honeycomb A, Honeycomb B, Rock, Air, Wind, and Rain A/B/C — allowing designers to work with varied geometries, densities, and rhythms. The palette includes seven matte colours (Bianco, Grigio, Fango, Nero, Blu, Verde, Rosa), each available in all formats. The collection also introduces Phenomenon Glossy, a new glazed option applied to select modules — Rock, Rain A, and Honeycomb B — available in Bianco Glossy, Nero Glossy, Oro, and Argento, emphasizing light and shadow with exceptional brilliance.
Softly dimensional, deeply refined, and always atmospheric, Phenomenon redefines the mosaic as a sculptural architectural surface — ideal for feature walls, spa environments, boutique interiors, and sophisticated residential design.
