Renga, designed by Vincent Van Duysen for Mutina, is a sculptural three-dimensional terracotta element conceived as a form of “micro-architecture.” Named after the Japanese word for “linked poetry,” Renga is designed to be multiplied and repeated like brickwork, enabling the creation of partition walls, freestanding architectural compositions, and decorative structures. The form consists of a vertical parallelepiped with a square base, softened by four cylindrical corner volumes that give the piece a gentle, organic silhouette.
Produced through an artisanal casting technique, each block is made from a coloured liquid stoneware mixture, resulting in a tactile, matte surface with subtle natural variation. Because every piece is cast individually, no two elements are exactly alike, lending authenticity and craftsmanship to any installation. Renga is offered in three architectural tones—Ivory, Grey, and Brown—that complement both contemporary interiors and outdoor environments.
Designed as a non-structural architectural element, Renga can be used indoors and outdoors (F1 moderate exposure). Its sculptural mass, rhythmic geometry, and versatile installation schemes (three official layouts) allow designers to create walls with transparency, depth, and dimensionality. Whether used to form room dividers, architectural screens, shelving walls, or decorative spatial structures, Renga brings material warmth, modern simplicity, and signature Van Duysen refinement to every project.
