Puzzle by Mutina, designed by Edward Barber & Jay Osgerby, is a vibrant, modular porcelain tile collection that celebrates geometry, colour, and composition. Inspired by the concept of design as a creative “game,” Puzzle invites designers to play with pattern, repetition, and rhythm across architectural spaces.
Each 25×25 cm tile is crafted from glazed porcelain stoneware and features a combination of plain fields and multicoloured geometric motifs. The collection’s strength lies in its modular logic — a system of solid, line, corner, and central pattern modules that can be freely combined to form bespoke compositions. The result is a surface that can shift from minimal and subtle to bold and graphic.
Puzzle’s eight regional colour families — Aland, Ash, Anglesey, Coal, Creta, Brick, Olive, and Murano — each include a tonal palette of three solids, six patterned tiles, and two “Edge” motifs. This structure allows for infinite combinations of rhythm and contrast, suitable for both walls and floors, and adaptable to residential or commercial settings.
Winner of the EDIDA China 2016, Best of Year 2016, and HD Award 2017, Puzzle represents the essence of Mutina’s design philosophy — creativity through modularity, colour, and form.
